So there’s no option other than to keep changing and refreshing the music you carry around with you, as you get bored with it.

My situation is made worse by only having an 8GB iPhone 3G as my portable device. :-( So I change the music on my iPhone pretty regularly. My musical tastes are quite broad, so some of my “iPhone Collections” can get pretty interesting.

Because of this, I’ve decided to start a list of my collections. Each time I change-out the music on my iPhone, I’ll update my blog with a new list of “Whats on my iPhone”. Sometimes you’ll notice a clear trend in my musical choices, either based on my mood, a genre, or a period in time. Often I’ll throw in 1 or 2 new albums or artists that I’ve never heard before.

On to the first list…

Ben Lee - Awake is the New Sleep

Ben Lee - Hey You, Yes You

John Butler Trio - April Uprising

Linkin Park - A Thousand Suns

Live - The Distance to Here

Live - Secret Samadhi

Live - Throwing Copper

Matchbox Twenty - Mad Season

Matchbox Twenty - Yourself or Someone Like You

Missy Higgins - On A Clear Night

Missy Higgins - The Sound of White

Norah Jones - The Fall

Panic! at the Disco - Pretty. Odd.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - One Hot Minute

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By the Way

Travis - The Invisible Band

Vanessa Carlton - Be Not Nobody

Vanessa Carlton - Harmonium

The Whitlams - Torch the Moon

There are quite a few albums on this list that I’ve never heard before, so it should make for some interesting listening.

Work, the positive side.

Last week, work was crazy; one tech away on leave & emergencies everywhere! It was just too busy for us to keep everyone happy. On top of that, we’re having some internal issues with staff… Anyone who knows me, knows that’s nothing new. Suffice to say, I was pretty stressed and tired come Friday.

Yet as Friday rolled around, I found myself thinking about all the things I love about my job. I didn’t wake up Friday morning and make a conscious decision to reflect on the positives, it just happened. I’m so glad it did. It’s easy to get bogged down in the daily grind, the politics and the frustrations.

So, here’s a list of some of the things I like/enjoy about my job.

Location. My office is less than 15 minutes drive from home. That can be a godsend at the end of a crappy day.

Variety. My job takes me to a wide variety of locations & businesses. One day I could be in a huge corporate office in the CBD, the next day in a manufacturing plant, the next day in a design studio.

People. Being in so many different locations means I get to meet and interact with lots of interesting people. Some of them I really like & we get along famously, others I despise. Luckily, I’m never really in one place long enough that it becomes a chore to deal with someone.

Challenge. Every week there’s something new, something I haven’t seen/used/fixed before. Sure, it can be stressful too, when you have an office full of people waiting on you to “get it fixed”. My job is never boring though, which is great.

Influence. I’ve worked in large, medium, small, corporate & government organisations. I remember all too well, the feeling of being a nobody, a “number”. My current employer has only 10 staff members. Which means that each members’ voice is heard. Not everything everyone says is worth listening to, but that’s another story. ;-) My employer trusts my experience, listens to my ideas, and allows me to steer the ship (most of the time).

I’m sure I could list a few more, but they’re the core of what gets me through those crappy weeks. For all it’s faults, there are still plenty of things I enjoy about my job and where I work.

I just wish everyone was able to say the same about their vocation, or to even have a job to talk about.

"No matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends- they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything- they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And babe, I hate to say it, most of them- actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up because if you give up, you’ll never find your soul mate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re going to fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.”

- Marilyn Monroe | Submitted by Ishaaa (via quote-book)

OMFG, Best Music Video Ever! The sites have varied in their design layout, content and function. All have implemented excellent templates created by the guys over at RocketTheme.com.

In July 2009, they introduced their Affinity template sporting a third-party extension from JoomlaWorks.gr called K2.

K2 was JoomlaWorks’ answer to WordPress. It was a major enhancement to the entire Joomla CMS, both front and back-end. It was set to make Joomla a more compelling option for bloggers, so naturally I was interested.

Being the early adopter that I am, I set to work including K2 in my latest Joomla website. It has been a headache ever since!

Whilst K2 has introduced some over-due features to the Joomla CMS, it seems the author(s) has given little consideration to K2’s true flexibility. K2 was meant to be more flexible than Joomla, but in reality it’s not. Allowing a user to create custom fields is not enough to call it flexible.

Maybe the story would be different if the guys at JoomlaWorks were of any help when it came to troubleshooting. Just browse the JoomlaWorks or K2 forums and you will find tales of frustration at every turn. You’re lucky if you receive any response from a JoomlaWorks member at all!

On top of the lack of flexibility and poor support, K2 has introduced some unwelcome “features” to the Joomla CMS too. Specifically, the “blog calendar” and “tag cloud”. Have a look at some WordPress blogs implementing these features and ask yourself just how useful they are.

My fellow blogger, Jeff Attwood, wrote an excellent piece titled Thirteen Blog Clichés, back in 2007, addressing the uselessness of these and other “features” of blogs. So it begs the question, how in-touch with current web trends are the guys over at JoomlaWorks?

Use the K2 extension from JoomlaWorks at your own peril. My advice; stick to individual extensions that do 1 task really well. Stay clear of any all-singing-all-dancing extensions, unless you really enjoy bad musicals.
